After weeks of tears, tantrums, shock decisions and celebrity guests, the X Factor 2008 is over. Alexandra Burke, mentored by Cheryl Cole, is this year's winner. She had been installed as the bookies' favourite but runners-up JLS did their best to upset the odds.
The young north Londoner made an unsuccessful contest bid three years ago, but has been widely praised for her performances throughout the live shows. In the final, she started off singing Christmas carol Silent Night before moving on to the tearjerker Listen with her idol Beyoncé.
